Universal Pictures just acquired the film rights to young adult novelist Lauren Oliver’s Panic. The author of the Delirium trilogy closed the deal on Monday night after a bidding war.

According to Yahoo! News, the book will be published in spring of 2014 by HarperCollins.

No description has been released for the book, but Oliver says on Tumblr that it is about a “game of fear.” She also describes the book as “gritty” and “realistic,” but full of action, adventure, and romance.

As for the movie, Marc Platt will be the producer and Maradith Frenkel, Universal’s vice president of production, will be overseeing the project. Oliver revealed, “I'm thrilled about Universal's enthusiasm and passion for the project, and excited about the chance to bring this story to the big screen.” It looks like Panic will be Oliver’s second film adaptation, following Delirium, which is set to be released in 2014. Both are sure to attract Oilver's fans, along with others!
