KSL-TV, the Mormon-owned Salt Lake City NBC affiliate, has decided to resume airing new Saturday Night Live episodes as they air around the country this fall.
The network, which has had a rocky relationship with NBC, made the announcement on Facebook Wednesday, confirming that the shows will air live at 10:30 p.m. local time. “More changes and updates to the fall line-up are coming soon – stay with us and we’ll keep you posted,” the network promised.
According to Variety, KSL has not aired SNL live since 1995, instead airing SNL repeats during an earlier slot on Saturday evenings. KSL has said that it was not because of SNL’s content, but because it runs a local sports talk show at the same time SNL airs.
The Associated Press notes that Salt Lake City’s CW affiliate KUCW had been airing SNL live. KUCW said that it was disappointed to lose the show, which will be starting its 39th season this fall.
KSL has made headlines before, most recently in May, when it refused to air an episode of Hannibal because of its “extensive graphic nature.” The network also wouldn’t air Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal and KUCW agreed to air that show as well.
SNL’s new season kicks off on Sept. 28.
