Pharrell Williams is being sued by popular rapper/singer Will.i.am. The reasoning behind the lawsuit? Will.i.am is suing Pharrell for using the term “i am OTHER.”
According to Z100, Will.i.am claims that he owns the copyright for the phrase “i am” and that “i am OTHER” is too similar for comfort. Will.i.am is worried this new brand will “dilute the I AM mark and the WILL.I.AM mark."
However, Rolling Stone reports that the lawsuit is really just a "run-of-the-mill trademark procedure," says Will.i.am. The rapper is merely looking to defend his registered trademark.
What does Pharrell have to say about this?
“I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me," he says according to Rolling Stone. Pharrell claims to be someone who likes to “talk things out” and has attempted to do so on many occasions.
Ken Hertz, Will.i.am’s attorney, says he just hopes the two artists can come to some kind of compromise and can move on from this inconvenience.
