Former Scrubs star Zach Braff has signed on to make his Broadway debut in a musical adaptation of Woody Allen’s 1994 film Bullets Over Broadway.

According to The New York Times, producers said Thursday that Braff will play the role John Cusack had in the original film. He is a young playwright who can only get his play on Broadway if he agrees to have a gangster’s talentless girlfriend in the production. Heléne Yorke will play the actress, which Jennifer Tilly played in the movie.

Previews start on March 11 at the St. James Theater. Opening night is set for April 10. Entertainment Weekly reports that the rest of the cast includes Lenny Wolpe, Betsy Wolfe, Brooks Ashmanskas and The Sopranos’ Vincent Pastore. Its still not known who will play Helen Sinclair, the role that earned Dianne Wiest her second Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

The Producers vet Susan Stroman is directing and will also choreograph. Allen co-wrote the book with Douglas McGrath.

Braff is currently working on his Kickstarter-funded movie, Wish I Was Here.
