Seth MacFarlane’s American Dad is moving from Fox to TBS. The animated sitcom will help grow TBS’ original slate, while giving fox room for a new animated series in 2014.
American Dad starts its 10th season on Fox on Sept. 29, airing in its usual time slot after MacFarlane’s Family Guy. But starting in the 2014-2015 TV season, the show will shift to Turner’s TBS network, which is quickly becoming a home for original sitcoms. According to Deadline, TBS put in a 15-episode order for 2014 and will provide TBS with another great lead in for Conan.
“American Dad! is a great fit for TBS, a favorite of comedy fans who like smart, irreverent humor with ample doses of biting wit and skewering satire,” Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement, notes The Hollywood Reporter. “We look forward to welcoming Seth MacFarlane and the rest of his team as they bring this iconic show to TBS.”
The sitcom already has a relationship with Turner, since repeats already air on Adult Swim and TBS. The two networks also air repeats of Family Guy.
It is produced by 20th Century Fox TV and MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman.
TBS is always looking for new comedies to air around its Big Bang Theory repeats and recently revived ABC’s Cougar Town after it was cancelled. The network is also home to Tyler Perry’s sitcoms.
