The fall season premiere of Glee will be delayed a week in light of Cory Monteith’s recent passing.
The Glee producers announced on the show’s Facebook page that “In light of the tragic passing of beloved Glee cast member Cory Monteith, the series’ executive producers, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company have jointly decided to delay the start of production of Glee until early August. Season Five of Glee will now premiere on Thursday, Sept. 26.”
Monteith was found dead last Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room. The cause of death was determined to be an accidental overdose of alcohol and heroin.
Monteith played Finn Hudson on Glee, a main character from the very first season of the show. The end of the fourth season left off in the middle of the school year with Monteith involved in a major plotline – mentoring the Glee club and re-budding his romance with Lea Michele’s character Rachel Berry. The show’s producers will be forced to alter their plan for the new season. Just months ago they announced that the first two episodes were written and Finn had a huge role, according to NY Daily News.
