Ellie Kemper, who played secretary Erin on The Office and appeared in Bridesmaids, has snagged a guest role in the final season of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother.
TV Line first reported the news on Tuesday, confirming that Kemper will play Cassie. Show creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas told the site that Cassie is “one of the most attractive, available, and — as Ted discovers — unfortunate guests at Barney and Robin’s wedding.”
The site noted that Kemper is only set to appear in one episode.
The news was also confirmed by CBS.com, which noted that The Talk’s Sherri Shepard will also appear in the final season in a recurring role as a nemessis for Marshall (Jason Segel). Shepard’s Daphne is on the same plane to New York that Marshall is on and makes the ride uncomfortable for him.
“We're all extremely excited to have Sherri Shepherd joining HIMYM for an arc in Season 9!” Thomas said. “She is hilarious and delightful and perfect for this part – we couldn't be more thrilled!”
Kemper played Erin on The Office from 2009 to the show’s finale episode last season. She also appeared on The Mindy Project and starred in movies like Bridesmaids, Get Him To The Greek and 21 Jump Street. Unfortunately for fans of her work, her NBC pilot Brenda Forever was not picked up by the network.
More HIMYM news is expected soon, since the cast is appearing at Comic-Con this week. The show stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders. Cristin Milioti has also joined as The Mother.
