In Teen Wolf season 3, episode 9, “The Girl Who Knew Too Much,” Lydia discovers why she’s been finding dead bodies, and the audience learns the identity of the Darach.
The episode begins with Deputy Tara Graham checking out the high school after hours. She runs into a group of students, including Danny, who are practicing for an upcoming memorial concert for all the people that have died recently. She tells them to leave because there was a 911 call. Her walkie-talkie starts playing the creepy chanting and then she sees a body being dragged into the locker room and goes to investigate. She sees a hallucination of her own dead body in the showers, and then the Darach attacks.
Scott, Stiles, Lydia, and Allison arrive at the school. Lydia had called them all and said she showed up at the school knowing there is a dead body. Stiles asks her where it is, and she says it’s their turn to find the dead body, which Scott finds. Deputy Graham’s body is laid out on top of the school’s sign.
The next day at school, Stiles is spying on his father to find out information. The Sheriff sees him and says whoever killed Deputy Graham will be found. Stiles is upset because he knew Deputy Graham. In English class, Ms. Blake talks about idioms. Scott tells Stiles he wants to talk to Ethan and see if the Darach was one of the Alpha packs emissaries. Stiles and Scott look to Lydia to distract Aiden so they can talk to Ethan.
Meanwhile, Allison tells her dad she’s staying home from school because of the murder. Of course, Allison isn’t planning on staying home. She jumps out of bed and goes to weaponize her wardrobe. She hears a noise and pulls Isaac in from the window, putting a knife to his throat. Scott was worried about her, so Isaac came to make sure she was alright. She tells him she can take care of herself, and he agrees.
Aiden warns Ethan he will hurt Danny if Ethan continues to see him. Lydia tries to keep Aiden away with a make-out session, but the two end up talking about Boyd’s death. He also says Derek killed Ennis, so Boyd’s death was justified. It’s clear Deucalion has let the twins and Kali believe Ennis’s death was Derek’s fault to fuel the hatred between the packs. Aiden also mentions he knows Derek was going to kill Lydia when he thought she was the kanima. She wonders how he knows that, but then a spiral is drawn on the window and disrupts the conversation. Aiden thinks it’s Derek and gets really upset, but it turns out it’s actually Cora.
Scott and Stiles talk to Ethan. Ethan tells them he and Aiden owe the Alpha pack everything. Both of them were omegas and treated terribly by their pack. They rose up with the help of Deucalion and slaughtered the pack. He says all the emissaries are dead, except for Deucalion’s. Ethan feels a pain and knows Aiden’s in trouble. Aiden beats Cora with a huge weight and Ethan and Scott hold him back, while Lydia and Stiles check on Cora. Ethan tells him he can’t harm Derek’s pack right now. Stiles decides to take Cora home because she’s still hurt.
Allison tells Isaac she thinks Chris might be the Darach. She shows him the map she showed Scott before. They find a fivefold knot below, with virgins, healers, warriors, philosophers, and guardians labeled. She calls Stiles and tells him he has to tell his dad because guardians might mean law enforcement. Stiles asks Cora to help him tell his dad.
Derek comes to the school and meets Ms. Blake and the two have a moment. Scott goes to see Ms. Morrell. She tells him she’s not the Darach, and she’s been trying to keep the Alpha’s from completely slaughtering everyone. She tells him Deucalion wants Scott, a True Alpha in his pack, or he will make Scott kill people so he can’t become a True Alpha.
Lydia shows up in a classroom, and writes 2 on the chalkboard and then screams. She tells Ms. Blake the teacher, Mr. Westover, was taken. Lydia tells her she’s psychic, and Ms. Blake seems doubtful, so Lydia echoes Stiles’s frustration from a previous episode shouting “I’m something!”
Stiles is attempting to tell his father about werewolves, and uses chess to explain. The Sheriff doesn’t believe Stiles and Cora, though he listens to the explanation. Stiles says Cora is a werewolf and can show him, but Cora faints and is bleeding from her head again. Stiles is still trying to convince his dad after they’ve taken Cora to the hospital. The Sheriff gets really upset and yells at him, and Stiles tells him “Mom would’ve believed me.” Ouch.
Allison finds out their history teacher Mr. Westover was taken and continues to think her father is the murderer. She and Isaac look over the map and find the sacrifice mark. Allison and Isaac arrive at the spot and see Mr. Westover tied up. Chris is there, shooting at the Darach. Allison lets Scott know it’s philosophers, teachers, that are being killed. Deputy Graham used to be a teacher. Allison and Chris are angry at each other, seeing as how they’ve both been lying to each other, but Isaac tells them this isn’t the time for fighting. All the teachers are headed to the concert, so everyone decides to go and try to figure out the last sacrifice.
Lydia is at the concert and tells Scott she wants to find the sacrifice before they’re killed this time. She wants to find them in time for Scott to save them, and he says he will. The two comfort each other by squeezing each other’s hands.
Derek’s at the hospital and Cora asks what’s wrong with her, but Derek doesn’t know. He says he will stay with her and kisses her on the forehead.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff asks Melissa to help him find some hospital records, which she agrees to even though he needs a court order. In the files, there is a Jane Doe who was found with her face slashed. Melissa says hundreds of birds died and flew into the windows when the patient was in the hospital. The Sheriff is starting to believe Stiles at this point as he questions if they were sacrifices for someone.
The concert has already started when Allison, Isaac, and Chris arrive. Lydia gets a text from Aiden saying he needs to see her right away. Only Aiden’s feeling his pockets and says he lost his phone. Lydia walks into a classroom and hears the chanting. Ms. Blake comes out of the shadows and hits her on the head. Stiles and Scott start looking for Lydia. The concert has taken a dark turn as they start playing the creepy chanting music.
Lydia wakes up, bleeding. Ms. Blake tells her none of them understand that the sacrifices are necessary. She says she knows the Alphas, which makes Scott’s idea that the Darach used to be an emissary to one of the Alpha’s seem possible. She tries to strangle Lydia, and Lydia screams. Scott, Isaac, Derek, Ethan, and Aiden all hear her scream. Ms. Blake is amazed and tells her she’s a banshee. She ties her up and gets ready to slit her throat. Before she does that, the pianist’s throat is slit by one of the piano wires. The Sheriff comes into the room and Ms. Blake throws a knife at his chest. Scott comes in and she dodges his attacks and hits him in the chest. Stiles tries to come in, but she sends the desk to block him from entering the room. The Sheriff talks about the woman they found in the woods with a slashed up face, and asks if it was her. He shoots Ms. Blake, but she heals because she’s taken the powers of those she kills. She kisses him when she says virgins and then her face changes into the Darach face. Stiles finally gets into the room, but it’s too late. Ms. Blake took the Sheriff and broke out through the window.
Quote and Comments:
“You’re just a bunch of stupid teenagers, running around thinking you can stop people from getting killed. All you really do is find the bodies.” (Cora to Stiles, Scott, and Lydia after she fights with Aiden)
There were various questions answered in this episode, so I’m going to break them down and share my thoughts.
First, Lydia is a banshee. Given that we kept seeing her scream and she was always finding dead bodies, it’s really not a surprise. That said, banshees aren’t creatures normally seen on paranormal shows, or at least, not in a positive light, so I think this is a fun development.
Second, Ms. Jennifer Blake is the Darach. I wasn’t surprised by this at all, since she was new in town, and had several scenes where her character felt shady, despite her innocent appearance. I was hoping she was a relative of Deucalion's or an old friend of Kate Argent’s because honestly the Darach was just so expected. I like that we’ll finally get to see her true character, even though I feel bad for Derek. I think possibly the worst part is that he was trying to protect her and as a result, Boyd died. I think it’s really interesting how she’s able to take the abilities of the people she’s sacrificed. She gets healing power, because of the healers, and strength because of the warriors. I think perhaps the virgin sacrifices gave Ms. Blake her innocent human appearance, or sexual allure because she mentions virgins right before showing her true face as the Darach and kissing the Sheriff. I’m not sure exactly why she took the Sheriff, but it might be so she has leverage against those who care about Stiles, like Scott.
Third, Stiles finally tells the Sheriff about werewolves and his father doesn’t believe him at first. He does see Scott wolfed out, so now he knows. I really think he will survive, but having the Darach take him was just a low blow to Stiles. I am excited to see how Stiles handles this though because he’s been so close to breaking this season. I want him to be the one to take down the Darach because she killed his friend Heather and Deputy Graham, and tried to kill his father, Danny, and Lydia. Plus, she tried to get Scott, Isaac, Boyd, and Ethan to kill themselves in “Motel California” and has been seriously messing with Derek’s head.
Finally, on the topic of relationships, we’re starting to see the break between Ethan and Aiden because of his feelings for Danny. Many fans were wondering if Ethan truly cares about Danny, and I think this episode showed he truly does and will do what he can to keep him safe.
