The Anthony Weiner sexting scandal isn’t providing plenty of fodder for just comedians, but writers for dramas as well, especially for the writers on CBS’ The Good Wife. Star Julianna Margulies and creators Michelle King and Robert King spoke about the scandal and how it relates to a show that started with a political sex scandal at the TVCA press tour.

E! News asked her if she saw the similarity between the scandal and the show. In the first episode, Margulies’ character stood beside her man, Chris North, in a press conference as he admitted to cheating.

“I would never want to benefit from someone else's pain but I have been emailing [our producers] for two weeks now,” the actress said. “It is the gift that just keeps on giving. It is shocking that in our fifth season, this show is more relevant than ever. It's amazing that my character is a character that women are looking to for answer as to how she feels about it. Alicia's advice to the wives would be, ‘Go back to work. Don't open the paper. Don't watch TV.’”

According to TheWrap, Margulies said that Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, looked just like she did in that pilot episode.

“My initial thought (when watching the conference) was that she had the exact look that I tried to capture in the pilot when you first meet the Florricks, and you see [Alicia] standing behind her disgraced man,” Margulies said. “It's sort of a soulless look ... she was just going through the motions.”

As for the show’s fifth season, Peter King said that “It's a shitstorm, so what we want is the quiet before the shitstorm.” He added that the National Security Agency leaks will also play a part. The story will be “kind of offers a framework for the year.”

The Good Wife kicks off on Sept. 29.
