The limited series trend is spreading to ABC. The Disney-owned network has secured the rights to Circle of Treason, a book about the CIA during the Cold War. ABC hopes to air the series in 2014 under the title The Assets.

Deadline reports that the series will be based on Sandra Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille’s Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed. The authors were two CIA officers who tracked down Aldrich Ames, a CIA officer who gave information to the Soviets that lead to the deaths of Soviet officers who were working for the U.S. In the series, CIA officers will tell the story of the end of the Cold War through their eyes.

Lincoln Square Productions is producing the series and the executive producers are Morgan Hertzan, Rudy Bednar and Andrew Chapman, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Not only is limited series a new trend for television, but the Cold War is making a comeback as well. FX currently airs The Americans, while BBC America is currently working on a made-for-TV film called Legacy.

CBS has currently scored a hit with the limited series Under The Dome, while Fox is prepping a 24 limited series.
