American Idol alum Adam Lambert is joining the season five cast of Glee.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the news via Twitter Wednesday evening writing, “I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall.”

Lambert retweeted the message and added, “I am so excited!!!”

News of Lambert’s addition to the show comes after the announcement that four season regulars would not return. Heather Morris (Brittany), Mark Salling (Puck), Amber Riley (Mercedes), and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will no longer appear on Glee as season regulars, but could return for brief cameos.

Lambert was rumored to return to Idol, this time as a judge, following the departure of Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. AI production was hopeful to revamp the judging table, this time with the addition of Idol alums. With Lambert’s new role in Glee, he is not expected to take a spot on the judging table.
