Al Jazeera America is less than a month away from its premiere and today confirmed that it will have on-the-ground coverage in 12 U.S. cities.
According to The Huffington Post, the new cable network will have a bureau in New York, Miami and Washington D.C. on the East Coast. Al Jazeera will have a presence on the West Coast in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. the rest of the bureaus will be in Nashville, Dallas, New Orleans, Detroit and Chicago. Al JAzeera America will be headquartered in New York.
Politico reports that the network also confirmed the bureau correspondents. The Washington correspondent will be Libby Casey, who previously hosted C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. Former MSNBC national correspondent Jennifer London will be based at the Los Angeles bureau.
The New York and San Francisco correspondents will be confirmed later.
“It is critical for Al Jazeera America to have bureaus strategically placed throughout the U.S. so that we can cover the news from wherever it happens,” senior vice president of newsgathering Marcy McGinnis said in a statement.
Former ABC News executive Kate O'Brian was named Network President last week after spending 30 years at ABC.
Al Jazeera America launches on Aug. 20.
