Amy Winehouse’s mother, Janis, is opened up about her daughter’s tragic death almost two years ago, saying she wasn’t surprised that she passed away before the age of 30.

The “Back to Black” singer died at the age of 27 on July 23, 2011, and Janis says her daughter “was never meant to be 30.”

She told The Sun, “When I think Amy would have been 30 this year, it doesn’t feel right. I’m not saying I always foresaw this but I wasn’t surprised.”
She added, “I couldn’t see Amy as an older person. She was this young girl who exploded into the world like a firecracker and then it was, ‘OK, I’m done — I’m off’. Amy was never meant to be 30.”

Entertainmentwise notes Janis also talked about the unconventional life he daughter led, saying she did wish she would’ve settled down and revealing she didn’t care about money.

“Of course I wish she’d married, had kids and been that archetypal Jewish girl, but that was impossible. Everything was like a story, a chapter unfolding,” she said.

But Janis takes some ownership in that, explaining “She had absolutely no interest in money. If I told her that I was using her money to get something, she’d say, ‘I don’t mind, take it’. Her house wasn’t beautiful. It was just a building, somewhere to live. There was a black and white kitchen and very sparse living room."

She concluded, “But that could be down to me. I didn’t teach her how to make a home because I’m not a homely person. It’s just where I sleep at night.”
