Musicians Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger tied the knot July 1, Canada Day, in an intimate ceremony just south of France.
Sources confirm to People that following several false reports that they wed on Saturday, the couple actually waited until Canada Day, a nod to their country, which is also the day they first began dating after meeting in the recording studio months prior.
Kroeger previously expressed the significance of a July 1 wedding date to People saying, “We met while recording music in March. But we started dating July 1, so I'll let the math speak for itself there. We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day. We can't wait to start our life together. We're very happy."
The Nickelback frontman and “Sk8r boy” singer announced their engagement in August 2012.
This is Lavigne, 28-year-old singers second marriage, she was previously married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley. This is Kroeger’s first marriage.
