The controversial decision in the George Zimmerman case has upset a fair share of celebrities. Among the upset are power couple Beyonce and Jay Z, whom attended a Justice for Trayvon Rally.
In New York City on July 20th, Beyonce and Jay Z attended one of hundreds of rallies that are occurring due to the decision made in Trayvon’s shooter, George Zimmerman’s case. On Beyonce’s official website she wrote,
“Trayvon Martin’s most basic civil right, the right to live, was violated. We have made so much progress and cannot allow hatred and racism to divide us. When we all join together, people of all races, we have the power to change the world we live in."
In 2012, 17 year-old Trayvon Martin was shot by George Zimmerman who was the neighborhood watch coordinator for a gated community where Martin was temporarily residing. Since his untimely death, there has been a ton of controversy surrounding this case with many people chalking it up to racism due to the fact that Trayvon Martin was African American. However, earlier this week, according to CBS News, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of second degree murder as well as the lesser charges that were being held against him.
