The Boston Celtics have clearly been going in a different direction of late, and their latest move falls right in line with that.
It was announced earlier today that they have hired former Butler head coach Brad Stevens as their new head coach. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/celtics/2013/07/03/brad-stevens-boston-celtics-coach/2487881/
The Celtics have been a busy organization since the end of the NBA season. They first traded their long-time head coach Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers. They then traded face-of-the-franchise Paul Pierce along with fellow future hall of famer Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.
All of these transactions mark the end of an era for Boston, one the marquee franchises in all of sports. They will now look to rebuild with a young roseter, and now, a young head coach.
With all three members of the "Big three" now departed it is time for Stevens, 36, and the rest of the organization to start a new era of championship level basketball.
Danny Ainge, Celtics president of basketball operations, explained the hire by saying, "Brad and I share a lot of the same values, though he is young, I see Brad as a great leader who leads with impeccable character and a strong work ethic." According to ESPN.com.
Time will tell if this ends up being a good hire for the Celtics, but it certainly shows what direction they are headed in for the future.
