Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead in a room at the Fairmount Pacific hotel in Vancouver shortly after noon on Saturday.
The Vancouver police confirmed in a press conference late Sunday night that the actor had died, according to the Province. Foul play is not suspected
Monteith, who was 31, spent time in rehab earlier this year for drug abuse, reports CNN. He spent most of the month of April in a rehab facility and was open about his struggles with substance abuse, telling Parade magazine in 2011 that he began using drugs at age 13 and went to rehab at 19.
Monteith has starred on Glee since the show’s premiere in 2009 and won a Teen Choice Award in 2011 for best actor in a comedy. He was in a relationship with costar Lea Michele until his death.
“We know there will be considerable interest in this case, and we have detectives assigned to the case who attended with our Forensic Identification Unit to examine the scene, to ensure to the extent possible that there are no unanswered questions,” said the Vancouver Police in a statement.
“As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death,” the spokesman commented.
