Charles Ramsey, the man who helped save three women from the basement of accused kidnapper Ariel Castro says that the attention he has received since the incident has ruined his life.

Ramsey fell into the media spotlight overnight this May after he claimed to assist one of the girls held captive, Amanda Berry, open a door to the outside world in his colorful interview on CNN where he talks about setting aside his McDonalds to investigate the matter, according to The Examiner.

When the door was opened for Amanda Berry, it also helped save the lives of her daughter, and two other women, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus, also trapped by Castro. Several accounts from neighbors, and trouble coming forward due to language barriers suggest that Ramsey may not have been the one to open the door for Berry, but instead her other neighbors Angel Cordero, Altagracia Tejeda and Aurora Marti who came to the girls rescue. While they believe Ramsey is only after the money and fame, traveling to Washington, New York, and Florida for speaking appearances, Ramsey claims he is struggling, unemployed, and homeless.

Though Ramsey’s earning from the fame surrounding his rescue and interview are expected to reach, $50,000 plus additional monies from speaking engagements, he told theDaily Mail, “I don’t have an address, I don’t live anywhere. I go from house to house, to friend to friend, to family member to family member.” He continued, “What I’ve been doing for the past four weeks is wearing out my welcome with everybody who knows me.”

With the money he so far received, Ramsey, 45, bought a used BMW, but besides that, he claims, is by no means rich. He cannot seems to find a job because employers do not want the attention his fame might bring to their place of work. He asserts that this is the same reason landlords will not approve his rental applications.

“I’m borrowing money from my relatives. I don’t even answer my phone anymore because [my creditor] keeps calling,” Ramsey said.

Before his CNN interview, Ramsey worked as a dishwasher, but now is unemployed, living off of the money he has received for speaking fees and engagements. He has used this money thus far to by his car, pay off debts and start up his website where he sells t-shirts with his face on them for $25 and promotes digital downloads of “Dead Giveaway,” the viral song with over 16 million views on YouTube that is made out of his 911 call.

Other problems his new fame has brought him, according to Ramsey, is a fake Facebook page he has been unable to shutdown, and a Chinese video game company selling a game with Ramsey’s image used as one of the characters.

Despite how the fame has, “ruined his life,” Ramsey does not regret his allegedly helping Amanda Berry escape and interviewing with CNN, according to Yahoo News.

“Would you go back to not being famous? Yes or no? Of course not, no you wouldn’t, so going back as far as me being famous, of course I’m not gonna give that up,” he says
