Charles Saatchi has announced that he and celebrity chef Nigella Lawson will divorce.
Saatchi reveals to Daily Mail that he made the decision to end his 10-year marriage after Lawson after failed to defend him after pictures of the multi-millionaire art collector grabbing her throat at a London restaurant surfaced.
Following the divorce announcement, the 70-year-old collector has released a statement saying, “I am sorry to announce that Nigella Lawson and I are getting divorced. I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way.”
"This is heartbreaking for both of us as our love was very deep,” he continues, “but in the last year we have become estranged and drifted apart. The row photographed at Scott's restaurant could equally have been Nigella grasping my neck to hold my attention -- as indeed she has done in the past."
Lawson left the couple’s home following their June fight and had not returned since. Saatchi brushed off the incident as a “playful tiff," and later turned himself in to police following advice from his representative.
