Christina Aguilera needed a season away from The Voice, not just to tour for her new album, but also to spend time with her son Max and be away from cameras. During Saturday’s Voice panel at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Aguilera showed off a slimmer figure and talked about what she did while she wasn’t on the show.
“I’m the type of person that I cannot live in front of the camera 24 hours a day,” the Lotus singer explained to the press, reports Access Hollywood. “I have to take breaks and stay connected with myself. I think it’s important so that I can then be [my] best on camera and find [my] own happiness with it.”
Aguilera said that it was important for her to be a mom and be around for Max. “I check out and I’m mom and I needed some time, I needed some time to do that,” she said. “He starts kindergarten this fall, I’m excited about that, but mom’s gotta pay the bills and gotta do her thing.” She added that she feels “relieved” after taking a break from the ratings juggernaut.
She also praised Shakira, who replaced her during the spring season. “Thank god for Shakira. She did a beautiful job,” Aguilera said, notes THR
Cee Lo Green is also coming back in the fall. He was replaced by Usher during the spring. "It was awkward and intriguing at the same time,” he said about seeing Usher in his chair. “It was a bit of an out-of-body experience.”
According to Us Weekly, Aguilera showed off a slimmer figure at the event, after critics went after her over her weight last fall. Adam Levine even had to defend Aguilera over her weight.
Speaking of Levine, on Saturday, he again had to talk about that controversial “I hate this country” comment from the spring season. “Ugh, really?” Levine said when a reporter asked about it.
“Everyone makes mistakes,” the Maroon 5 singer said. “If your intentions are good and someone misunderstands you, regardless of what the scenario is, I think people can see through stupid media hype. No offense.”
The Voice returns on Sept. 23.
