Damon Wayans Jr. is to return to New Girls for its third season.
The actor will reprise his role as Coach in the Fox comedy this fall. Wayans first appeared in the pilot episode. He left to star in Fox’s other comedy Happy Endings before it got cancelled this year. Lamorne Morris replaced Wayans in the second episode as Winston.
According to the TVLine, Coach will have a significant arch next season, especially with Winston’s storyline. Although the show creators have yet to make a statement about the casting, E! Online reports, Wayans will be in at least six episodes, with the possibility of staying on longer.
Jake Johnson, who plays Nick on New Girls, is working with Wayans in Lets Be Cops, a comedy shot in Atlanta. Johnson was one of the first to spark the rumors.
“I would be surprised if he doesn’t come back for a while. There would be such funny episodes with Coach seeing what’s happened in the past two years since he’s [been] gone,” Johnson said after Happy Endings ended.
The new season of New Girls starts Tuesday, September 17th.
