With the cancellation of ABC's sitcom, Happy Endings, Damon Wayans Jr.'s next move is to revive his role as Coach on New Girl.

EOnline confirmed that Wayans is set to return as the hilarious character on Fox's comedy. He will star in at least six episodes, with an option to stay on afterwards.

Wayans starred in the pilot of the Zooey Deschannel hit show, but left for the second season of Happy Endings. Although it had a likable ensemble and clever writing, the ABC show still didn't get picked up for another season, reported EntertainmentWeekly.

Replacing Wayans after the pilot of New Girl, Lamorne Morris’s Winston was cast as another loftmate. The return of Coach will be integrated into Winston's storyline.

New Girl star Jake Johnson said to TVLine, "There would be such funny episodes with the Coach seeing what’s happened in the past two years since he’s [been] gone.”

The season three premiere of New Girl airs Tuesday, Sept. 17 on Fox
