Denzel Washington is denying allegations that he and wife of 30 years Pauletta Pearson are divorcing in the midst of rumors that the actor has been unfaithful.
According to The Huffington Post , various magazines reported Washington has been spotted showing affection to a woman who is not Pearson, leaving his wife with no choice but to retreat “to New York to contemplate."
A rep for the Oscar-winning actor says that the pair is “not divorcing, not separating” despite rumors of otherwise. Gossip about Washington’s infidelity is not news to the couple. In 2006, Washington was accused of impregnating Out of Time co-star Sanaa Latham. The actress told the press at the time that though the situation was “frustrating” and untrue, “people are going to talk no matter what.”
Though people are talking again, Washington and his wife spoke candidly about their marriage to Ebony , saying that they "go through up and downs like any couple."
“I live with this man,” Pearson opened up. “I see the down part. I see the sad part. I see every part. He has and knows he has that stability in me as his wife. That’s gives him strength, regardless of if he misuses it. I can’t dwell on that. But I do know that gives him a great platform to go and fly."
"We live in a time -- and it's not for me to judge anyone -- when people give up too easy," Washington said of media reports that their marriage is failing, adding that while there is no “magical mystery” to a successful marriage, he and Pearson are dedicated to making it work.
