This week's episode of The Fosters was very intense. The episode began with Mike and Stef breaching Anna's house, when Stef was fired upon and shot. Mike returned fire against the male who was Anna's boyfriend. Mike then contacted dispatch for an ambulance for her. Lena called Jesus and he told the truth about where he was, the woman's shelter dropping off Anna. Lena drove to pick him up when Mike called Lena, telling him the situation. Meanwhile, Brandon and Callie were at the house when police officers came to contact Brandon about his mother. At the hospital Lena arrived and gave Mike some attitude and was frantic. The doctor came out and explained to Mike and Lena that Stef had a collapsed lung and other complications and doing the best she could to stabilize her. Jesus and Mariana overheard and were very upset. Mariana felt that it was her fault and that Lena was going to blame her for Stef's situation.
Mike, Lena, Jesus and Mariana were waiting at the hospital when Callie and Brandon arrived with the officers. At that very moment the doctor came out to the waiting room and reported Stef was stable. She invited only Lena to come back to see her. Mike wanted to, but his captain reminded him that he could not speak to her until internal affairs speaks to them both.
Stef opened her eyes to Lena. Then the episode showed a flashback of when Stef and Lena first met. Then the episode cut back to Lena explaining that Stef was okay to the waiting family members. Brandon immediately started bombarding his father with questions. But Mike had to leave to speak to internal affairs briefly in the hallway. The two internal affairs investigators were abrasive to Mike and insensitive to the situation. Mike's captain sensing and witnessing Mike's rage rising decided to end the probing by the two investigators.
In the waiting room Brandon exploded on Jesus and Mariana blaming them for what had happened to his mother. Callie ushered him away to cool down. The attending surgeon came out and explained that no damage to any internal organs other than the collapsed lung. But he explained that there was a possible issue, the bullet was rest close to the spinal column and could touchy he spinal column and cause damage. Lena and everyone except Mike and Callie went to go see Stef.
Then episode once again cut to another flashback of when Stef met Jesus and Mariana at the police station. But in real time at the house Mariana was going through old things and Jesus came in and comforted her. Mariana expressed that she was worried that their mothers won't want them. Upstairs Brandon was going through the closet four clothes to bring Lena, when Callie came into the room. Callie opened up to him and explained that he had a right to be mad but that he was not being sensitive to Jesus and Mariana's feelings. She told him to be more understanding and not to be so mean.
Brandon came downstairs to assure Jesus and Mariana that he loves them as siblings and was just upset. There was a knock at the door and it was Jude, who left Connor's house to be with everyone. Afterwards everyone went to sleep and Jude told Callie that this reminded him of their mother. The next morning Callie was in the kitchen cooking comfort food and Brandon came in to the kitchen. He then began to ask her about her mother and how they ended up in foster care. She explained her mother died in a car crash, her father was driving and caused an accident. The accident took the life of his mother and others. He was sent to jail and that is how Callie and Jude ended up in foster care. Brandon began to physically comfort Callie and brushed her hair behind her ear. But as they became closer there was a knock at the door. It was Wyatt with donuts, who seemed to notice sensual tension between her and Brandon. They all went to the hospital to be close during the surgery. Wyatt and Callie went to get air while Mike went to speak to his captain. She explained the investigation seemed to be going okay, and he might get suspension but has to not drink anymore. He then got defensive but understood and her walked off to get coffee. The episode then cut to another flash back where Stef explained to Mike that she was a lesbian at a cafe over coffee. She even told him that she met someone too. The episode then went back to real time with Mike in his car outside the hospital drinking whiskey in his coffee.
Wyatt and Callie were outside the hospital at a fountain. Wyatt told Callie to go for Brandon and he knew that she likes him. He encouraged her to be true to her heart and seize the love she feels for Brandon. Callie kissed Wyatt on the cheek, left him and went to go tell Brandon how she feels. But as she was getting close Brandon embraced Tayla and she made a turn away into the waiting room. Inside the waiting room the surgeon explained that the operation was a success. He explained that he removed the fragment but not the bullet. The family was happy and hugged. Brandon hugged his father and realized he was drinking, he examined Mike's coffee cup and smelled its contents. He then threw it out into a refuse container and stormed off. The episode cut back to a third flash back where Stef told Lena she loved her and accepted her sexuality. The episode returned to real time again and focused on Lena on a bench with Mariana. Lena explained that she loves Mariana and that they choose each other with love, which is more important that blood.
The captain saw Mike outside getting a water. The captain said Anna was actually at the house climbing out the window when she heard the gunshots. The two agents from Internal Affairs were questioning Stef. She said they went to sweep the house, and all she remembers is that she was shot, and then she was in the ambulance. Everyone was going to leave when Brandon confronted Mike about his having whiskey in his coffee and told him he was done. As they were leaving the hospital, the cops were bringing Anna in. Lena told her to stay away from her family. Mike was finally able to see Stef, she said it wasn't your fault, that she wanted to go in and investigate. Mike said he wishes it was him. Mike told her that the cops picked up Anna, and that it doesn't matter because it was a clean shot and she was probably lying. Stef just stared at him.
Stef had a flashback to the scene of the shooting. Anna's boyfriend shot Stef, he dropped his gun, then Mike came in and shot him. Then the episode ended. Turn in next week to see what happens.
