The tabloids might be more interested in George Clooney’s love life, but the film community is still more concerned with his artistic achievements. Clooney, who co-produced Argo in 2012, will be receiving BAFTA Los Angeles’ Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award in November.
The LA chapter of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts made the announcement today, confirming that he will pick up the award at the Beverly Hilton on Nov. 9 during a gala dinner. The Kubrick award is given to individuals who are dedicated to the arts.
Proceeds from the gala dinner go to BAFTA LA’s various projects, including education, scholarships and helping the community.
BBC America is airing the ceremony on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. in a two-hour special with footage from the Red Carpet.

His work has captivated audiences from all corners of the globe, and BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to be celebrating his immeasurable contributions to our craft.” BAFTA LA Chairman Gary Dartnall said in a statement. “We are also especially pleased to be continuing our partnership with BBC America, whose support and primetime broadcast of the ceremony will ensure that viewers around the country will be able to celebrate the occasion with us.”
Clooney won a BAFTA award earlier this year for co-producing Ben Affleck’s Argo with Grant Heslov and Affleck. He’s currently working on The Monuments Men, which he is directing. Argo also won Best Picture at the Oscars and Clooney also has a Best Supporting Actor Oscar on his shelf of awards.
Previous winners of the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film include Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Sean Penn, Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington and George Lucas.
Clooney has been in the headlines for the past few days because of speculation around his relationship with Stacy Kiebler. TMZ is now reporting that the two have officially broken up.
