Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on Saturday. He was 31.

The actor was found a little after noon at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel where he had been staying since July 6. After missing his noon check out time on Saturday, he was discovered by hotel staff in his room on the 21st floor, Vancouver police said in a news conference. He had been deceased for several hours prior to his body being found.

Police said that the actor was with other people on Friday night, but hotel footage shows Monteith returning to his room alone early Saturday morning. No cause of death has been released and no foul play is suspected, and police believe that he was alone when he died. They are, however, questioning the people he was with on Friday night.

The star, who played Finn Hudson on FOX's popular show had previously battled with substance abuse issues. In March he voluntarily checked himself into rehab and he had previously served a stint in rehab when he was 19. Monteith's reasons for checking into the hotel remain unknown as the actor is a native of British Columbia.

Monteith's family released the following statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss." A rep for Monteith told E! News, "We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss." His girlfriend, co-star and actress Lea Michele, has yet to comment.
