Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf wed longtime girlfriend, Happy Endings actress Elisha Cuthbert Saturday.

The private ceremony was conducted in St. James Catholic Church in Summerfield, P.E.I., with the reception following at their residence in New London, National Post reports.
β€œIt's a big wedding, probably the biggest I've ever done in my 46 years, as far as the celebrity part of it goes,” Rev. Paul Egan told the Post.

The couple welcomed around 300 guests at the reception.

According to E! News, Cuthbert and Phaneuf, who have dated for five years, were sure to keep their nuptials private by having security stand guard throughout the church. Canadian well-wishers gathered to cheer for their special day, but a source noted no one attempted to approach the church as to give the newlyweds the respect and privacy they deserved.

The couple has not released an official statement following their nuptials, but fans have been quick to gather on Twitter to send the Maple Leafs captain and his blushing bride their congratulatory messages.
