Great news, True Blood fans. The hit HBO series has been renewed for a seventh season, the network announced on Monday.
Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, said the show, in the middle of its sixth season, is still a “phenomenon.”
"True Blood remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers," he said in a statement, E! Online reports. "Thanks to [executive producer] Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV."
The future of the show was up in the air when showrunner Alan Ball decided to leave before this season aired. Although the sixth season was cut from 12 to 10 episodes and there was a ratings decline from the Season 5 premiere to the Season 5 premiere, the show is still a success. 4.5 million viewers still tune in on Sunday nights to see Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and company.
Hitfix reports after Ball’s departure, Mark Hudis took over as showrunner but he was replaced by Brian Buckner, a writer and producer for the show, midseason.
The seventh season will return next summer.
