HBO has one problem with Game of Thrones. What do the producers to when they have finished adapting all the books George R.R. Martin has written in his A Song of Ice And Fire series before Martin finishes the last two books? HBO executives said during Thursday’s Television Critics Association Press Tour panel that Martin has to get moving.
Even if the show finishes the existing books before Martin finishes the last novels, HBO president Michael Lombardo is confident that the show “can go on as long as there are stories to tell,” reports The Huffington Post. “We haven't gotten anywhere near that conversation with [executive producers] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss],” he added.
“Our line to George was ‘keep writing,’” HBO chief executive Richard Plepler chimed in, reports Entertainment Weekly. Lombardo added, “Yes. Get busy writing!”
According to the Atlantic Wire, Martin wrote the first five A Song of Ice and Fire novels over a period of 15 years, so he hasn’t been in a rush to complete his epic. He’s currently writing the sixth book and there will still be one more after that to complete the epic.
HBO executives did have more to talk about beyond GoT, though. They said that there’s a good chance that The Newsroom gets a third season and that True Blood could continue past season seven. Teme’s last episodes begin on Dec. 1.
As we reported earlier, HBO did say that the Criminal Justice pilot with James Gandolfini will have to be re-worked before it airs, if it ever does. The version with Gandolfini will definitely not reach the small screen.
