Grammy Award winning artist Jennifer Lopez reveals in a new interview with W Magazine that life for her wasn’t always easy. The “Dance Again” singer admits that her mother didn’t approve of her pursuing a career in dancing and that at the age of 18 she was homeless.
“My mom and I butted heads. I didn't want to go to college. I wanted to try dance full-time. So she and I had a break,” Lopez explained in the interview. “I started sleeping on the sofa in the dance studio. I was homeless, but I told her, 'This is what I have to do.'”
Lopez was determined to make it as a dancer and was soon given the opportunity to dance in Europe, which followed with a spot on In Living Color as a Fly-Girl. “It all happened in a year,” she confessed.
Since making a name for herself, Lopez has released seven studio albums, five compilation albums and 37 singles. The 43-year-old multi-talented Lopez has also taken on a number of starring roles in film including Selena, Maid in Manhattan, Gigli, Monster in Law, Parker and many, many others. She recently left her post as an American Idol judge to get back to her music and kick off a worldwide tour.
Her most important role, of course, is being a mother to twins Max and Emme.
Last month Lopez received the 2,500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
