Comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld is speaking out following his attendance at the 2013 MLB All Star Game, saying he was “embarrassed” by the crowd’s reaction to players whom they deemed as rivals.
“This is one of the lowest moments of my lifetime of Mets fandom, when the Citi Field crowd was booing (players) that they see as rivals to their Mets team,” Seinfeld told radio host Steve Somers via CBS New York. “And I’m standing there, I was in shock. I was embarrassed. I thought it was horrible manners.”
Continuing he adds, “These are the best players, in the game you love, that have come here to put on a show for you, and we’re booing them like 5-year-olds…As if there’s some sort of real animosity. The American League is not the Taliban,” he added. “What are we booing Miguel Cabrera (for)? … So I was very embarrassed by that.”
Seinfeld did note, however, that he was pleased with the crowd’s reaction to New York Yankee’s pitcher, Mariano Rivera, who is set to retire after the season.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the star-studded game saw victors in the American League who beat out the National League 3-0, finally ending a three year long losing streak.
