Jim Parsons already has two Emmys for his role as Sheldon cooper on the highest-rated sitcom on TV right now, The Big Bang Theory. This morning, he scored his fifth nomination for the part and he said he’ll never tire of getting nominated.
Parsons told Entertainment Weekly that “it’s always a pleasant surprise” to hear the news that he has received a nomination. He also praised the CBS sitcom’s writers for the way the characters continue to evolve, specifically Sheldon and Mayim Bialik’s Amy.
“They’ve made such strides in the growth of several characters on this show, without alienating the characters from who they were at the beginning,” Parsons told EW.
In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter this morning, Parsons said that the nomination feels even sweeter since the show has been on for six seasons.
“We're in such a good spot with it and our audience, things have gone so well,” he explained to THR. “Because of all that, and how long we've been on, there's something even more sweet about it; it feels even more of an honor getting to go. Every year that goes by there are more shows to choose from, and it seems that our odds would go down exponentially to be included.”
Big Bang earned eight nominations, including one for Outstanding Comedy. Bialik also earned a nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy.
“I'm as shocked as if Chuck Lorre were nominated as supporting actress! I feel like I do not even belong,” Bialik told THR.
Parsons is currently in New York, filming Ryan Murphy’s The Lonely Heart for HBO.
