New Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi donated $1 million Monday to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund which will help aide those still suffering the damages from the October Superstorm.

Bon Jovi stood alongside NJ Governor Chris Christie where he announced the donation, E! News reports.

The Sayreville native said to the crowd, "Natural disasters spare no one. But you can't imagine the devastation, destruction and despair until Mother Nature takes aim at your hometown. This is bittersweet; it's heartbreaking to see our fellow New Jerseyans so affected by the ravages of Hurricane Sandy but we're happy to make the donation and offer real, substantial help to the residents of Sayreville and the nearby, low-lying communities as they rebuild their homes and lives."

According to The Sentinel, prior to appearing before the crow, Jovi, Christie, his wife Mary, Sayreville Mayor Kennedy O’Brien and neighborhood activist Fran O’Connor toured some of the neighborhoods destroyed and still in the midst of recovery.

“My being here is not political. It’s emotional — because I grew up here, I went to school here and I met my wife here,” he explained.
