While promoting her memoir Nowhere But Up, Justin Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette, remained tight-lipped when it came to matters of her son’s public issues.
He’s been accused of battery, heavily partying, and reckless driving throughout his Calabasas, Calif. neighborhood, but don’t expect his mom to comment on it.
“He wants me to continue to respect his boundaries and my relationship with him,” Mallette, who gave birth to Bieber when she was 18, said, Pollstar reports. “Everybody has their own opinion and everybody wants to sensationalize everything.”
She continued, “You have to sort of let them make some of their own decisions. Me, personally, I would love to be with him all the time and to be able to ground him and deal with his problems and do all of that stuff, but at some point the parenting style changes. I hope to still be a respected voice in his ear.”
Mallette’s memoir is about her own struggles, and she writes about her past with sex abuse, drug abuse and an attempt at suicide at the age of 17.
Mallette has always been careful not to reveal too much about her famous son in the press, saying back in February of his break-up with Selena Gomez, “You know, I just try and support whatever he's wanting. I think [Selena is] a sweetheart, and whatever they decide is great."
