The mother of the late Michael Jackson, Katherine Jackson, gave a tearful testimony in court on Monday for the wrongful death lawsuit she filed against This Is It concert promoter AEG.
Katherine said she had no idea that her son was having financial difficulties before his untimely death in 2009.
"I heard that from different people," she said during her testimony, E! Online reports. "I heard for years that Michael Jackson was broke but he wasn't."
She added of Dr. Conrad Murray, who’s currently serving jail time for manslaughter charges in the death of her son, that AEG had hired him and not Michael. "[Michael] felt bad for Dr. Murray because he didn't have no money," she said.
Despite statements from others to the contrary, Katherine also said she never witnessed the “Thriller” singer "loopy or out of it." She also said "I knew he was taking them [pain pills] but I didn't know he was abusing them,” saying when she confronted him about it he denied it.
She says AEG executives knew what was going on, however, and “they watched him waste away," NME reports.
