Kristin Wiig has turned down an offer for Bridesmaids 2 , a decision that came as a shock to fans, but came easily to the comedian.

"It wasn't a hard decision," she says to Harper’s Bazaar . "We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that's not my goal in my creative life."

Bridesmaids took theatres by storm when it opened in 2011, making almost $300 million in the box office. Though it was a huge success, and a game-changer for female comedians, Wiig is not alone in her apprehension to create a sequel.

Co-star Melissa McCarthy, who is currently enjoying the success of The Heat , said that while she would be willing to appear in a sequel, but only if Wiig is behind it.

“If Kristen and Annie [Mumolo] wrote something, if it was like on the back of a napkin and they wanted me to perform it in the backyard, I would do it,” McCarthy said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly . “But I’ll let those ladies decide that.”

Director Paul Feig, who teamed up with McCarthy again on The Heat , echoed the funny lady’s sentiments.

“Everybody’s kind of doing their own thing,” Feig said. “And it all depends on Kristen.”

Unfortunately for Feig, McCarthy, and Bridesmaids fans, Wiig is looking forward to bigger and better things, happy with her “rewarding and exhilarating” past.

The Saturday Night Live alum is currently promoting Despicable Me: 2 , which hits theatres July 3.
