Another Lana Del Rey song was leaked on Tuesday night. The single “So Legit” pokes fun at the eccentric pop starlet Lady Gaga.
NY Daily News reports that “So Legit” could have been written in 2008 or 2009. Rey clearly takes jabs at Gaga with her straightforward lyrics and dreamy vocals. Many believed that the queens from New York were friends until this track was leaked.
“So Legit” is evidently dedicated to Gaga since Rey sings about sharing a Brooklyn past before making it in the big times. According to DailyMail Rey and Gaga shared the same manager Bob Leone. This resulted in the sultry songstress to play in the same New York club scene.
The track could be about how Gaga reached success in 2009 and Rey was still struggling to make a mark on the music world. The first clue to assume that Rey is singing about Gaga, is by referring to her as “Stefani.” Gaga’s real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Rey sings, “Stefani, you suck, I know you're selling twenty million / Wish they could have seen you when we booed you off in Williamsburg.”
Rey starts to make fun of Gaga’s appearance by singing, “You're looking like a man, you're talking like a baby.” Rey makes another reference to Gaga with the lyrics “What happened to Brooklyn, what happened to our scene, baby?/Have we all gone Gaga crazy?/Remember when the streets used to be dangerous and we were born bad/And we were born bad?”
Rey nor Gaga have commented on the alleged slam. Gaga’s faithful fans have given Rey a piece of their mind by leaving comments on her Facebook and Twitter page.
Take a moment to listen to the track. Do you think Rey is dissing Gaga?
