Leah Remini, who starred on the Kevin James sitcom King of Queens, has reportedly quit Scientology for questioning leader David Miscavige.
A source for The New York Post claims that the former The Talk host had been put through years of “interrogations” and “thought modification” because she questioned how Miscavige was leading the controversial religion.
The Post reports that Remini decided to leave because of the Sea Org order. Members have reportedly been forced to “disconnect” from family members Miscavige believes are “suppressive persons” if they leave Scientology.
“It all began when Leah questioned the validity of excommunication of people,” the source claimed. “She is stepping back from a regime she thinks is corrupt. She thinks no religion should tear apart a family or abuse someone under the umbrella of ‘religion.’”
According to The Huffington Post, Remini’s issues with the church went public after Scientology expert Tony Ortega blogged that Remini ‘dared’ to ask where Miscavige’s wife Shelly was when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding. Scientology blogger Mike Rinder also wrote this week that there had been “drama surrounding Leah has been ongoing for some time” and that Miscavige has already turned her into an “avowed enemy.”
The Post’s source adds that Remini “was put through interrogations and blacklisted within the church that she donated millions to and that her family has spent their lives in. She was put through ‘thought modification’ for five years.”
Remini has long been associated with Scientology, since she admitted back in 2001 that she follows the religion. She recently appeared in the ABC sitcom Family Tools, which was cancelled.
