A lock of hair belonging to rocker Mick Jagger has sold for $6,000 at auction, which is about double its pre-sale estimate.

The hair lock was sold by Jagger’s ex-girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton and it came in an envelope labeled "Mick Jagger's hair after being washed + trimmed by Chris at Rose Hill Farm.” The money went to Changing Faces charity, which helps people with facial deformities.

According to Reuters, Shrimpton met Jagger, who will turn 70 this month, when he was a student at the London School of Economics. She’s the sister of English model Jean Shrimpton.

ABC News notes that the lock of hair was actually sold by Shrimpton’s grandmother. It was estimated to sell for anywhere between £1,500 to £2,000, about $2,300 to $3,100.

This past weekend Jagger and the Rolling Stones performed at Glastonbury music festival. They will also perform this weekend at Hyde Park in the British Summer Time festival.
