Marc Anthony is responding to backlash he received for singing “God Bless America” at the MLB All-Stars game Tuesday night.

Viewers of the game claimed to be confused by a singer of “Mexican” descent was singing the United States’ song.

Some viewers took to Twitter to say statements such as, “Marc Anthony singing God Bless America on the MLB Allstar Game..........am I the only person that finds that un-American,” and “Marc Anthony isn’t even American. He just rolled his “r” in God Bless America,” NBC Latino reports.

Anthony, who for clarification is an American citizen, has responded during an appearance on LIVE with Kelly and Michael, saying “I just want to set the record straight. I’m more Puerto Rican than ever. I’m more New York than ever,” Fox Latino reports.

He also said, “Let’s get this straight. I was born and raised in New York. You can’t get more New York than me.”
