Matt Damon, who stars in this summer’s Elysium, spoke with Esquire magazine for its August issue, revealing that Brad Pitt is jealous of his superhuman ability to have a private life.
Damon says the secret to having a private life as a celebrity is marrying a non-celebrity. “I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian,” he told the magazine, reports The New York Daily News.
“Not an actress and not a famous actress at that,” the Oscar winner explained. “Because then the attention doesn't double-it grows exponentially.”
Damon and former bartender Luciana Barroso have been married for seven years and are the parents of three daughters. Barroso also has another daughter from a previous relationship.
One of Damon’s famous friends, Pitt, is jealous of his ability to have a normal life. Since Pitt is engaged to Angelina Jolie, he is followed everywhere by photographers.
“I remember telling him that I walk my kids to school, and his face just fell. He was very kind, but he was like, 'You bast*rd' because he should be able to do that, too. And he can't,” Damon said, notes AceShowBiz.
According to Just Jared, Damon also spoke about child stars, revealing that his mother thought it was “child abuse.”
“She was a professor who specialized in early childhood development, and she thought putting a child onstage or in a commercial or in a movie was child abuse,” Damon said. “So when I did Elysium with Jodie Foster, I asked her. I mean, she’s basically been acting since she was born. I figured, if anyone’s going to know, it should be her, right? So I asked her. And she sort of smiled and said, ‘It depends on the child.’”
Elysium, a sci-fi film directed by District 9’s Neill Blomkamp, hits theaters on Aug. 9.
