Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson married fiancé Justin Mikita this past weekend in New York City. They got engaged last year during a Mexico vacation and they were dating for two years before that.

Screenwriter and playwright, Tony Kushner, officiated the downtown NYC ceremony, Ferguson’s rep confirmed.

According to People, those who attended the wedding include So You Think You Can Dance judges Nigel Lythgoe, Cat Deeley and Mary Murphy.

After the ceremony Lythgoe took to Twitter to write, "I think the service at Justin and Jesse's wedding was so beautifully honest. It was so emotional that when we weren't laughing we were crying."

Others in attendance were Ferguson’s Modern Family co-stars such as Julie Bowen.

Ferguson explained on The View last month that despite living in California, they planned a New York wedding because it was legal there. He said they had no plans to move it to California after the DOMA ruling on June 26 because everything had already been planned.

"It wasn't legal in California up until yesterday,” he said at the time, “Weddings are expensive, y'all, and we wanted to give that money to a state that accepted us as an equal. We're too far down the planning path to change."

The couple asked guests to donate to Tie the Knot, a charity that supports same-sex marriage.
