Actress Kate Mara was unable to fulfill her role as host of the 2013 Emmy Nominations, so The Academy of Television of Arts & Science’s called on Tony Award pro Neil Patrick Harris.
The Associated Press reports that Marris was unable to make the event after her plane suffered a mechanical malfunction, she was unable to depart from Santa Fe due to the issues with the plane.
Harris took to the stage and told the crowd in comical fashion, “Special thanks to Kate Mara for getting me out of the house before my children wake up screaming and crying…I actually appreciate that."
The nominations were announced Thursday morning with American Horror Story receiving 17 nominations, Michael Douglas’ Behind the Candelabra received 15 nominations, 30 Rock received 15 nominations one for Tina Fey who is nominated in for Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy.
Fey will compete against Laura Dern. Lena Dunham, Edie Falco, Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the category.
The Emmy’s will air live on September 22.
