I’m at a complete loss this week. Because of my schedule, today’s the day that I have to take care of all of my personal business as well as this column and the rest of the comic work, and to get ready for the Boston Comic Con which is occurring this coming weekend. I am once again woefully unprepared for the Con. In April, when it was supposed to happen, I had put in a lot of time to get things ready. I’d put in a huge amount of effort, starting in January, to be prepared. In my experience, you can walk around a show floor and see any number of copies of Amazing Spider-man #1 or low number Batman’s and Superman’s, but I can never find ‘this week’s books’. A lot of dealers have the same basic stock. You can see who the Diamond customers are based on what piles of books they have on their table from whatever recent backlist sale they’ve taken advantage of. I don’t order a whole lot of extra for the store stock. Nearly everything I bring in is special ordered for someone and goes immediately out, again. Yet in January I started putting time into research of the release dates and had a good number of books arrive the Wednesday before the Boston show, and it was postponed. I’d much rather have a pile of books that are no longer the novelty they were meant to be, than to have a loved one lose a limb. There’s no doubt the greater tragedy occurred in Boston, but I didn’t repeat that effort for this new rescheduled date. I also ended up with an extra table that I wasn’t planning on so I’m bringing more items to spread out a little bit and have to rework some of what I was planning on showing off. That’s where I need to be right now. So let’s take a quick look at what I’m excited about this week and feel free to introduce yourself if you happen to be at the Boston Comic Con…
I only read DC Comics The Wake #1 but was so captivated by it that I can’t wait for the hardcover to come out. Written by Scott Snyder featuring Sean Murphy on art and it was really just so much better than most of everything else out there. So look for marine biologist Lee Archer, and her crew, to discover what’s happening when the bodies start dropping in The Wake #3, $2.99…
Green Lantern: New Guardians hardcover volume two Beyond Hope, $22.99, written by Antony Bedard with art by Tyler Kirkham. I’ve only been reading the Green Lantern mythos in the collected volumes and even though Geoff Johns didn’t write this, everything Green has been an absolute blast for the last few years. Here’s to hoping it all doesn’t come crumbling down soon…
Well that’s pretty embarrassing. Two books, originally there was only The Wake, and I added the hc so it wouldn’t be one space. Oh well. You know the drill, there are plenty more that are not listed. For a more complete list, feel free to visit your local comic store or favorite site. If you’re interested in more of what I think, follow me on Twitter at Mycomicstore001 or like my Facebook page.
