It's the final day of SDCC 2013 and the Orphan Black cast and creators have successfully made it through their first panels, dropping hints of what's to come in their new Season, when it will premiere and how they've been handling the show's success.
San Diego Comic Con, the annual event where TV show and movie stars come together with fans for showcases, has been in full swing since Wednesday . On Friday the cast of BBC America's Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany (who plays the clones Sarah, Beth, Cosima, Katya, Rachel, Helena and Allison), Jordan Gavaris (Felix)and Dylan Bruce whom audiences know as Paul, sat at the Nerd HQ panel and were later joined by creator Graeme Manson and Producer John Fawcett for the Comic Con Panel to interact with fans and answer their questions.
The cast had one of the best HQ panels of the day, answering all questions while also making the event fun and memorable, Gavaris went as far as singing lyrics of Taylor Swift's "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together" while Maslany beatboxed in the background.
Later they attended their Comic Con panel which was in a room full of over 500 eager fans. They asked questions regarding how Maslany is able to play 7 characters on a show and keep them all organized and so convincing while also keeping her own sanity to which she answered, "I went into hiding after we finished shooting, because I was exhausted. It was such an exhilarating experience… There was always a new character to switch into. I was running on adrenaline the entire time."
So what did we learn from Orphan Black's Comic Con Panel? The second season of Orphan Black, which the writers are currently working on, will premiere in April 2014 with production beginning on September 23. When asked of the possibility of more clones being added to the shows, Fawcett teased, "We do like our clones! I don't think anyone would be surprised if we unveiled a couple of new clones in season two; I don't think that's letting the cat out of the bag too much." in Hollywood Reporter. He also added that Cosima's health issues will be addressed but they're still up in the air about what will happen with her.
Tatiana Maslany doesn't have a favorite clone because she can connect to something in all of them, but audiences do, ranging from Cosima to Helena to Allison. Also, if you didn't know already know, Jordan Gavaris is not British so he does not sound as you would expect with Felix's thick accent and sassiness, but rather he's Canadian and American. Everyone was excited about the creators' discussion of the possibility of a Beth episode to explore her past being that her death was the catalyst for show's beginning.
Everyone's excited to get back to work and are so grateful for the positive reception of the show.
One other topic that was discussed in every conversation and interview with the creators and the rest of the cast was the Emmy snub. Fans and critics alike claimed Orphan Black was snubbed at the Emmy Nominations on July 18 but both cast and crew agree that they're extremely honored they were even a part of the conversation and they know they have a very loyal fan base. If anything, all the Emmy conversation has boosted the show's popularity and people will most likely be tuning in April to find out more about this Orphan Black show everyone's been going on about. As they should.
