After two seasons on Oxygen, the network has decided to not renew the reality competition for a third season.

The reason for its cancellation was that there was not enough turn around time between the renewal of Glee for season 5 and 6 and a third season for The Glee Project, reports TheHollywoodReporter.

Ratings had gone down between the first and second seasons. The season-two finale had less ratings than the first at 821,000 viewers tuning in, reports EOnline.

Oxygen said on TVGuide, "The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen, but we are extremely proud of this series, which launched the careers of several talented individuals. The show had so much heart and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling."

Oxygen maintains that the sudden passing of Cory Monteith was not the reason for the show being cancelled and that the decision had been made weeks ago. Monteith had appeared as a mentor on The Glee Project several times.

The show was a reality competition that tested contestants' vocal and dancing talents. The season winner was awarded roles on Fox's Glee. Series regulars like Alex Newell, Blake Jenner, Samuel Larsen, and others launched their careers on the competition.
