Paula Deen is shooting down claims that she made one of her chef’s dress up like Aunt Jemima.
Dora Charles, who worked for Deen for 22 years, came forward Thursday claiming that the Southern Chef asked Charles along with several other employees to fulfill racial stereotypes in the most recent blast against Deen, who has seen her empire crumble to her feet following claims of racism.
Charles spoke to New York Times detailing stories far beyond Deen’s use of the ‘n-word.’ Among the claims include Deen asking Charles to ring a bell which she states is “a symbol to me of what we used to do back in the day” as well as having Ineata Jones, another former employee, dress up as Aunt Jemima so customers could watch her make pancakes.
According to TMZ, Denn is refuting Charles’ claims especially after the former employee signed a document saying she never felt discriminated by Deen.
A representative for Deen has released a statement following the claims saying, "Dora's complaint is not about race but about money. It is about an employee that despite over 20 years of generosity feels that she still deserves yet even more financial support from Paula Deen."
