The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have revealed the name of their baby boy, around 24 hours after first showing him off to the world.

In a statement posted on the British Royal Family’s Facebook page, the palace announced that the parents have named him George Alexander Louis. The new prince, who is third in line to the British Throne, will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

George was born on Monday and 24 hours later, the Duke and Duchess showed him off to the world after the emerged from the doors of St. Mary’s Hospital. In a sign of how modern the couple is, William carried George in his car seat and drove off himself.

As the AFP notes, George’s great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, did meet him earlier today at Kensington Palace. After the meeting, William and Kate took George to meet his other set of grandparents, Kate’s mother and father.

George will be King eventually, following Prince Charles and then Prince William. He might have a long wait though, considering that Queen Elizabeth II has been queen for 50 years.
