Sofia Coppola's new film The Bling Ring centers around the group of teenagers in Los Angeles who decided to rob celebrity homes during 2008 and 2009, but Rachel Bilson, who was among those celebrities, isn't exactly a fan of the film.
"I thought it was weird to glorify something that was so upsetting for a lot of people. It’s important to detach from material things, but the special, personal things I lost are hard to forget," Bilson told Cosmopolitan UK.
The group of teenagers broke into the actress' home more than once, stealing thousands of dollars worth of her designer clothes collection as well as jewelry, including her mother's engagement ring.
According to The Huffington Post, another unfortunate event that took place, but was left out of the film, was when Rachel Lee, one of the Bling Ring members, reportedly defecated in Bilson's bathroom as revealed by Nick Prugo, another member of the group.
Aside from Bilson, Paris Hilton was also affected by The Bling Ring. Hilton's home was among the homes the group robbed, along with others that included Orlando Bloom and Lindsay Lohan.
"I was really emotional watching it. During some parts of it, I literally had tears in my eyes and I wanted to cry. I knew what happened with the burglaries, but I had never actually seen it — so watching it happen, I was like, 'Oh my God, this really happened to me. These kids were really in my house and did this to me.' It's so violating," Hilton told Kyle Buchanan from Vulture in May during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
Hilton's actual home can be seen in certain scenes since she allowed Coppola, who she has respect for and thinks is "an incredibly talented director," to film at her house.
