Grammy Award winning country music star Randy Travis is “showing signs of improvement” after being hospitalized for viral cardiomyopathy.

Travis was noted as being in critical condition and waiting to undergo potential heart surgery. According to TMZ, Dr. Michael Mack, who is treating the 52-year-old singer, released a statement Wednesday saying, “His condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement."

Starpulse reports that Travis remains in critical condition after suffering the cardiomyopathy which was brought on from a respiratory viral infection he contracted less than one month ago.

Travis was transferred earlier from Baylor Medical Center in McKinney, Texas to Heart Hospital Plano.

“Since his transfer, his condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement. We determined together, in a joint decision, that a higher level of specialized care was appropriate and therefore we transferred him to the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano,” Dr. Mark explained. “On behalf of Mr. Travis' family, friends and associates, we would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming affection and support that Mr. Travis has received."
